Warning: if you injure your fellow student(s) then you will fail. The grade is about being
professional, having discipline and using control - without these attributes you cannot teach
others.
Warm up
Student must demonstrate a satisfactory warm up routine including demonstration of all breakfalls
Standing Techniques
Defence From kicks
a) Turning kick to the body take down and finish
b) straight kick to the mid section take down and finish
Standing sleeper and choke holds
a) Jumping sleeper hold from straight punch
b) Guillotine choke from attempted shoot
c) Collar strangle with valley drop
Knife defence and disarming stick defence and disarming
1. knife straight lunge to the torso defend and disarm
2. knife downward strike to the neck defends and disarms
3. knife slash to the torso including throw disarm and lock
4. knife threat disarm and leg smash
5. stick defence with throw and disarm
6. stick defence from standing disarm and attack
(Note when grading student must demonstrate techniques using a live
blade)
Ground techniques
Leg locks x3
a) straight leg lock from the guard position
b) Heel hook from the guard position
c) Knee lock from standing to ground
Neck lock whilst in opponents guard (the can opener)
Escape from armbar
Escape from Americana arm lock
Escape from foot lock
Throws
Shoulder throws x2 (with the arm and by the Gi)
Stomach throw followed by 2x elbow forward roll and turn
Inside leg throw with finished with a lock or punch (Student must show balance and
control)
Contests or Random attacks
The student has the choice of the following
Three 3-minute semi contact contests against instructors or equal graded students, the student will
wear a full head guard and grappling mitts (Please remember if you injure an instructor or student you
will automatically fail your grading)
Or:
Student will defend from 15 random attacks, as directed by the chief instructor. The student must
demonstrate control and discipline at all times.
