Merit Badges

Merit Badges to Collect!

We are introducing a new system for the younger children where they can train for a variety of badges. The badges are for such things as breakfalls, techniques (e.g. throwing), groundwork and sparring.

Every six weeks we will hold a grading (usually on a Sunday 11am to 1pm.). At the grading, the children will be tested on four different badges. When they have a total of eight different badges they will receive their next belt.

This means that rather than waiting for a long time between gradings, they can be kept motivated.

There are also badges for things like belt correctly tied, neat uniform, teamwork, positive attitude, so that the kids can be rewarded for other behaviours. In fact, you’ll also be able, as parents, to recommend that your child gets a badge, if they’ve been particularly helpful at home, done some chores etc. Click here to see all the badges!

Rewards for Good Behaviour - Special Badges

Here’s a great way to reward your child’s good behaviour at home or school! Kids love badges – so we’ve got some additional badges that you can award…here’s how…

As a parent, you can also recommend that your child receives a special badge from the Cougars club for particular behaviours – these may be doing chores, doing homework on time, being helpful etc.

Just complete a form and give it to Sensei Ken with your payment. Badges are only £1.50 each.

You can award as many badges as you like! Spare forms are available from Sensei Ken or Assistant Coach Liza Bexon, or you can download one here.
